Your Donated Dollars will support MEMORY CAFES in your community.
- Memory Cafes are participatory action research pilots building more dementia friendly communities. They are tackling the stigma, the isolation and the depression surrounding dementia.
- Memory Cafes are free events inviting in all those with cognitive decline and dementia, their families, their caregivers and their community who cares.
- At these Memory Cafes we experiment with non-medicalized, holistic approaches to cognitive decline and dementia that are rooted in the unique assets of each community; art-based and recreation based approaches are explored, ie: (sound healing, Thai chi, art therapy, animal therapy.
- We experiment with various venues (community halls, recreation centers, churches, libraries, museums, seniors centers, town squares)
- Cross sector relationship building in each community is therefore integral in the planning of each Memory Cafe. We connect with those who are passionate. We find the pain points. We explore the assets.
- We work across generations and across cultures taking a rural health equity approach.
- The stories of the lived experience are shared deeply at each memory cafe. We strive to lift up the voices of those with dementia.
- We create a safe container where our guests can ask questions of professionals.
- We address the 14 modifiable risk factors associated with cognitive decline and dementia.
Your Donated Dollars will support MEMORY CLINICS in your community.
